From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Album Leaf, Maquiladora and Adam Gnade
at the Casbah in SD CA, 11.11.05

Jimmy and The Album Leaf had a nice thing going over two shows at the Casbah and the Knitting Factory. They were very tight and the crowd was very appreciative both nights. Travelling as a four piece they came out for a 3 or 4 song encore both nights. All of the songs were synched up to videos and tape loops. There was some very sweet violin with delay, a couple of guitars, about 10 keyboards and a minimal spattering of vocals. The San Diego show was sold out and the crowd was calling out requests as people stayed out late to hear it all. The multiple keyboard work combined with the tape loop/heavy drum thing is one of the nicer staples of San Diego music now.

The synth sweeps triggered by 3 or 4 keyboards at once are lush and sweet with leads on the piano/rhodes/microkorg/alesis/moog and violin. These are the sounds tv pays for. Check out the newest at Sub Pop. It's great to see these excellent musicians playing live. You should check it out.

Rounding out the night was Maquiladora in support of their new record on Darla Records "A House All On Fire" and Adam Gnade.
