From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Band of Horses

So everyone labels you a My Morning Jacket rip-off. There could probably be worse comparisons drawn, considering the acclaim and praise My Morning Jacket has received over the years. But still, "rip-off" has such irreversibly negative connotations. People tend  to think of a band who can't think for themselves or isn't good enough to write their own music; A band that just copied someone else's sound rather than creat ing their own. Well, if it's any consolation, I think this rip-off band is better than the original.

Band Of Horses has created in EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME an album chock-full of catchy songs infused with equal parts folk and pop sensibilities. Songs like "The Great Salt Lake" and " St. Augustine " are standouts that I find are much catchier and more memorable than any My Morning Jacket song I've ever heard. "Weed Party" and "Monsters" fall a little flat but the rest of the album has plenty of good tunes to more than make up for a few flops. Fans of Wilco, Neko Case, or any other pop/folk band out there should definitely give these guys a few spins. After that you can make your own decision on whether Band Of Horses are a rip-off or not.
