From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Andrew Mohr’s “Craggy Niches” from the Last Decade
Andrew Mohr is one of those people who move through your life for a brief while, yet leave lasting trails of influence for years. I met Andrew in High School and back in those long ago days he was one of the first “Punks” I’d ever met. Although he was deep into a period of wild years he always seemed to exude a clear and deep intelligence. This intellect mixed with intense curiosity and humor has grown and refined with Andrew in the decades since then. As with so many early then lost friendships, we were recently reconnected through the magic of Facebook. Although we are both entirely different people than we were in those days some things remain. Andrew’s curiosity has led him to explorations of cooking, baking and raising chickens! Oddly enough these same threads/interests are among my pursuits as well. Andrew has always had a keen and critical ear in regards to music and this passion seems alive and well. Simply put he’s one of those people I’m glad to have (however electronically distant!) in my life. I know that when I communicate with him we can range from Louis-Ferdinand Celine to bread recipes to the finer points of Can’s album “Ege Bamyasi” without skipping a beat. His thoughtful opinions are a “No-Bullshit” breath of fresh air. Here is his list!

Sigur Ros - Von

Joanna Newsom - Ys

Monotonix - Set Me Free

Massive Attack - 100th Window

Flaming Lips - Yoshima

Girl Talk - In Step

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground -Birds

Tom Waits - Alice

Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun

Norah Jones - Those Sweet Words
