From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

The Black Heart Procession at the Casbah by BSD 07.06.06 by Eric Nielsen

Sometimes San Diego is so good. You know, fourth of July, OB fireworks and then a concert by some Godfathers of SD Rock, The BHP (Pall is in Three Mile Pilot. 3MP also includes Zach from Pinback. Three Mile Pilot is playing the Touch and Go party in Chicago and recording a new album). Different yet with the same power and subtlety, this band has evolved over time into a 5 piece live thing supporting their follow up to Amore Del Tropico, The Spell. It was just released on Touch and Go. They've come a long way since One was released in 1998. These fellas (Scott Mercado of Manuok, Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse and at times Maquiladora, Matt Resovich of Album Leaf, Toby Nathanial and Pall Jenkins, his solo project is Mr. Tube and the Flying Objects) started off the night like the old BHP, Pall sitting down at the saw, dressed in a vest and shades Pall started sawing through the first two tunes. These older tracks were familiar and eased the night into a mix of old and new songs. The sound was the best the Casbah has to offer with the vocals a little hot and the music mixed in nice behind it. These guys have been on the road a lot and it shows. The playing was very solid. The new songs soared, Toby played guitar and Pall song without playing some and, as of old, it was magic. My friend passed out in the middle of the hot summer show at the Casbah and I had to look after her. BHP put a spell on her and knocked her down, or I'd have more to tell. She's fine. BHP Website
