From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood - Goodbye
Digitalis11.03.6 by Keith Boyd
Brothers and Sisters! That’s what we’re dealing with here. If your life is such that you are a brother to a sister or a sister to a brother then you’ll have an inkling of what I’m talking about here. Brothers and Sisters. Is there any relationship as intertwined, close, distant and just plain weird as that? You know each other so well and yet you don’t know each other at all. You compete for the essential elements of life (parental attention, space, food even) for so long that you kind of hate each other. You endure so many of life’s conundrums together (moving, death’s in the family, traditions) that you love each other. In other words it’s a wonderful mess. Given the intricacies and pitfalls of sibling relationships I always find it a wonder when brothers and sisters collaborate in a musical act together.
The Australian duo, “Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood” are doing just that. After releasing many limited edition CD-r’s they’ve finally brought out this, their first full length disc and it is some crazy stuff. It’s a dense shrapnel spitting and fuzzed out mess. When I say mess I mean mess in the best sense of the word. The fireworks start in with track 1 but what’s lovely is that underneath the fist sized chunks of distortion and gristle there resides a freaky and fried folk rock. At times this element seems to break through the dense sonic goo only to be swallowed whole and melted down into pure fuzz. This album rocks! It’ s just one great big stoned good time.
A mess of love and hate firing on all cylinders all of the time. Just like brothers and sisters.
