From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Eagle Rock Music Festival 10.10.7 By N. Fitzpatrick
Eagle Rock is an almost bucolic Los Angles neighborhood adjacent to Pasadena. Sponsored by the Center for the Arts, their ninth annual music festival has now grown tremendously since I last attended. This is the second year that Colorado Blvd. is closed to allow free access to forty bands spread along six blocks. The venues are mostly the parking lots of local businesses, with the exception of the 20th Century Women's Club which offers a more traditional indoor stage. The community setting is a radical departure from this summer's Silverlake Street Fair as the band's are all strictly local but nonetheless entertaining, plus it's free! My faves were a psycho-billy trio call The Curs who had a massive moshpit in an plumbing supply lot. An outfit call the Virginia City Revival was part Cramps, part tent revival and engaged the crowd of all ages (from five to fifty-five). There were local favorites Dengue Fever and The Pity Party (the latter garning some catcalls which were curtly dispatched by their drummer),plus the mighty Under The Influence of Giants. I look forward to next year and one can only hope they can manage to keep it a free event.
