From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Hot Chip with Robert Wyatt and Geese Eric Nielsen 1.13.9
All the nirvana urges are contained in this little black plastic sleeve of a 4 song ep, blissfully droning the monk Wyatt over my Hot Chip virgin ears is so sweet. Yea, they were on the Mercury List. This is a first exposure to their backward trackings, interplays of computerized sounds organically tethered to the ground with some delicate touches and some HMT sounding vistas.

A little Matmos waiting for a simple Bjork and out pops a high champagne. The tastefully arranged vocals and soft sounds keep this album almost all the way down low. The jews harp on Made In the Dark may be the only exception. It shimmers somewhere between a vocoder and a straight attack on your impulse to let the music come to you.

The backwards mystic trackings of We're Looking For a Lot of Love (my favorite track) crack your basal bones, gather your chakras and center them, opening the first then the second, up to the fifth to the top. It's a really sweet five minute mantra that will lull all of your senses into Cloudland Canyon towards Current 93 orbiting exceptional Mogwai and home with soft, soulful words.

If I Could Have Just One Pure Thought brings this mini player to a virtual end (not for me because I've played it about 10 times in 2 days). The strings so so crystal sugary and not knowing where Hot Chip starts, I can only feel a complex submersion and completion with Geese on their two tracks.
