From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Movies With Heroes
Nothing Here is Perfect - Ci Records

Listening to the Pennsylvanians "Movies with Heroes" album is like a retro trip back to college. Back when 91X made the radio good. Of course 91X rarely does it these days. This album makes you want to go out with your friends, have some drinks, turn up the radio and drive fast. "Nothing" is a single that could be playing on 91X today

The Robert Smith/Cure comparison, most obvious on "Ink" is very fair and also makes you think of earlier days. The guitar plays with the melodies of the singing and the songs are mainly anthems and straight, solid pieces, with lifting choruses and a "Granddaddy" noise emanating here and there.

This 5 piece make tight numbers, all are less than 5 minutes. This album was mixed by Ed Rose. Release date of March 28, 2006.

The record mellows out a little towards the end and gives you a little breathing room with the sweet "Moth and Rust". The bells at the beginning remind you of who you are. You can hear some more modern sounds with some nice keys, guitars and computer sounds. The voice is relaxed and soars easy into the big lift. I would like to hear a couple of more like the beginning of this to really relax into it. Overall there are some very nice songs on this album.
