The Osophists
December 2. 2005
The Osophist's five song, self-titled ep, leads emotions with honesty and confidence. Songs begin simply; engaging trust with a sincere voice; then hold on and convince with heart.
The instrumentation is tight; each driving the other throughout a dichotomy of sweetness, as in 'swimming', and Descendents-style punk/power, as in 'the hands of a shaker'. While guitars compliment the voice, the rhythm and dynamic progression dictate each song's passion. Melodic, memorable riffs wind thoughtfully as well forcibly with the lyrics, vocals and harmonies. The ep's last song, 'our regret', is not only the most impressionable, but a realistic combination of the first four and a perfect conclusion.
