From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Pinback, Mr Tube and Earthless at the Belly Up notes, pics and vids by Marc Gentry 07.27.07
Show notes:
Years around the Sun opened. I only caught the last two songs and they sounded like Pinback. Not much stage presence though. A Little boring to watch.
Mr. Tube and the Flying Objects were great! Even better live than on their album, "Listen Up". With two drummers, a trumpet, a sax, two guitars, a bass, and keyboards, Pall informed me that was a stripped down version of the band. "We usually have more people in the band". At times they appeared like a free form jam band . Loose and yet tight (if that makes any sense?) Like I said, I'm no reviewer.
Third up was "Rob Crow" as the show was billed. However, his band Pinback decided to debut songs from their forthcoming album. Rob, always a bit awkward on stage, even after 15 years of performing live, admitted feeling a little nervous about performing the new songs for the first time for a live audience. This however, did not stop him from proudly displayed his Comic-Con badge, t-shirt and Star Wars hat! The most notable addition to the Pinback lineup was Terrin Durfey, of San Diego's Boilermaker, playing Bass, guitar and keyboards. After their performance, Terrin thanked the audience for coming out and supporting him. He is currently undergoing Chemotherapy and the show was a cancer benefit for him.
Sadly, I missed most of the set by Earthless. As they were setting up, I mentioned for my friend Jordan, I have a feeling they are going to be Loud! What little I did see really impressed me though. They weren't only loud, they were LOUD!!! HUGE rattle your ribcage, LOUD! They made AC/DC look like Tori Amos! With Mario Rubalcala, (Ckickitat Ikatowi, Black Heart Procession, RFTC) on drums how couldn't it be?
There was also a raffle where they gave away, a snowboard, skateboard, guitar signed by all the performers, t-shirts, gift certificates, cds, posters, etc.
