From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Projekt Revolution at Coors by Dylan Nielsen 08.1.07
So yesterday, Linkin Park's tour came down to Coors Amphitheater. Not to be outdone by Vans Warped Tour, they called the tour Projekt Revolution. I went to the show with a friend of mine so we went a little later than the official start. That turned out to be a good idea. We came in to the wrong side of Coors and looked around a little bit. It seemed really empty for a show that had started an hour ago. We tried to go sit out on the lawn to wait for the first band to come on but we were quickly stopped and told seating wouldn't start until 4. After about two hours of just sitting in the shade of some concessions stand we decided to go to the other side. That turned out to be a good idea.
We went to the other side and found the Revolution Stage. When we got there the first three bands had already played and a band called Saosin was playing. We decided to check out the booths and such while they were playing. We didn't really find anything good although the Verizon booth was giving out free bags that said Projekt Revolution on them. We got them pretty quickly considering almost everyone had one by the end of the night. When we got back to the stage Saosin was finishing up their last song. From the small amount we heard we thought that it was heavy, but good. They are definitely a band I'll be checking out again. Then we checked out the Etnies trailer. They had a couple of BMXers going but none of them were really good. Next up was Mindless Self Indulgence. This was the first band of the day that I was truly looking forward to. The singer calls himself Jimmy Urine and he lived up to his stage name. A few times during the show he said some pretty hilarious stuff. He first asked for some cigarettes and a lighter. He proceeded to get hit with a lighter and got pissed off at the girl who threw it at him. He then had an entire song choreographed to dance dance revolution. Once they were done we decided to go back and try to get a good spot in the line. We got lucky and got right to the rail.
The first band up was julien k. I had never heard of them before then. They were horrible, completely and absolutely horrible. They had a drummer and 1 to 3 people playing synth on any given song. Their saving grace was the drummer though. He was pretty good and kept the entire thing together. Next up was Placebo, a band from England. They were pretty good with a couple of really good songs, but nothing spectacular. They gave way to HIM. HIM is one of the most hyped bands today. It seems like everywhere you go, whether it’s on MTV or somewhere around the internet everyone is constantly telling you how great this band is. Sorry to rain on the parade but they are really not that good. They all came out with no shoes on, the main singer was really wasted and couldn’t stop groaning into the microphone and their songs weren’t that great. Thankful for that to be over we waited for the three bands we were really excited about getting to see.
Next up was Taking Back Sunday. They came on and really got the crowd pumped to the highest it had been all day. They played for about an hour and left the crowd wanting more. However they didn’t do anything great for the show. Some things I noticed during their show. The singer was wearing Heely’s because he seemed to be sliding around the entire time. Also the funniest thing all night happened. The singer was crouching down looking very forlorn and he got hit in the face with some merchandise. He then something along the lines of, “that was a great shot you should consider a career in baseball”. They went off the stage and really got the crowd ready for My Chemical Romance. Now this is what I was waiting for. Just to add to the suspense they decided to make the time between them longer by about 15 minutes. Once they came on to the stage, everyone who was sitting on the lawn immediately came forward and crowded the rail. They came on and proceeded to play an absolutely amazing set. Everyone was going crazy and there was a large amount of crowd involvement. Then Linkin Park came on. However we decided to leave early to get past the traffic so we only got to see part of their set. But they had an electric set going and it was a going to be a great show.
Overall it was a good experience but I think that if there were some better bands on the main stage it would have been a lot better. Also everything was insanely overpriced. A cup of water was 5 dollars. And the fact that it was about 90 degrees the entire time didn’t help either. Also everyone was pretty drunk.
