From Sam....
Gawd!! I hope the walls don’t cave in on us THIS SUNDAY, Strangers!!
Sunday, May 13 will be the loudest Stay Strange yet!! Frank Melendez and Riververb! Also on the bill is the equally loud Actuary from Los Angeles. Plus a rare performance by artist Gerritt Wittmer.
SUNDAY, MAY 13-
RIVERVERB/ACTUARY/GERRITT WITTMER
THE KAVA GALLERY - 2804 KETTNER BLVD - 7PM - $5.00 - ALL AGES SHOW!
Riververb is always in a constant change, and I hear that the latest incarnation is the best so far! Judge for yourself! it’s some heavy stuff! Face morphing grinder sludge. Last time Riververb played, no slayed, the smoke turned black from monolithic chunks of acid-noise.
Actuary shake the shit loose! Los Angeles breeds some sick stuff and this by no means drops the ball. Not only are this tunes in your face, it’s in your skull too! Mean ass nitro venom. Gory!!
Gerritt Wittmer is an artist in the darkest sense possible. I’m not sure what he’ll be doing at this month’s Stay Strange, but if it’s anything like his performance at LUFF, it’s going to be scary!!!

Queens of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
by Greaser 5.26.7

The long awaited new QOTSA. Took a few listens to take it all in, but now that I've given it a good go around i have to say this is one fine album.
Most of the songs are kinda all over the place with many different changes in em, but that's what makes the album interesting. I thought their last album "Lullabies to Paralyze" lacked a little something and i think they found it on this one. It has a very metallic sound to it. I think it's a nice combination of all their albums and by that i mean it's got it's riff based tracks like the first album as well as the melodic songs like lullabies. don't forget the ass kicking track like the ones Nick sang on "Songs For The Deaf".

My favorite tracks are "Turn The Screw" where Josh sings in a higher voice than normal which gives the track a different vibe if you will. "Battery Acid" is a hard hitting track that puts visions of marching robots for some reason. "River In The Road" is a bit of a downer. It's got a very heavy feel to it an by heavy i mean like a big dark cloud over the story teller who's sitting there about to cry. Damn this album is good especially really loud. There are a few bonus track on the import versions of the album. "Running Joke" is probably my favorite track at the moment off of any album. At the end of Lullabies there is a hidden track with some horns playing (the Disneyland Main Street Band played those horns so i love QOTSA even more) and they come back in this track. very moody.
