San Diego Street Scene 2007
I was worried about the future of the SD Street Scene when I saw that Clear Channel had bought the festival and when I saw the line up. The festival was really fun though. The set up was very good at Coors and all of the extras were pretty nice. The weakest part of the whole thing was still the line up. Maybe the big corporate thing dictated the bands more than an artistic vision.
My favorite acts of the 2 days were Ozomatli (amazing bass sounds), Bad Brains (original line up), Air (great recreations of their albums) and T-Pain (got the crowd bumping). My least favorite acts of the show were Pepper (ego freaks), Slightly Stoopid (just boring), Van Stone (homophobes) , and Louis XIV (bad 12 bars). In the middle somewhere were Spoon (uhh, maybe their hit was ok), Tiger Army (nice stand up bass, terrible guitar tone), Brand New (too much screamo), The Supersuckers (the Satellite amps sounded great) Z-Trip (classic dj rock), and Israel Vibration (sleepy).
I think the future of the Street Scene is optimistic, but can I please book some of the bands? If not me, how about Tim Mays or Soma Les?
