Tattoo You - Chuck by Keith Boyd 07.30.07
Chuck is an exceptionally nice guy and good friend who works at Lou’s Records in Encinitas. His love of and expertise in music is one of those wonders to behold. He’s the type of person whose presence should drive everyone to SUPPORT INDEPENDENT RECORD STORES! His body art is a testament to his dedication to music and here’s what he had to say about it.
1. What made you want to get tattooed?
Why I got my first tattoo and why I have continued to get them are two completely different reasons. I got my first tattoo to be cool and tough.
2. What was your first tattoo?
My X tattoo.
3. Do your tattoos have an overall theme? If so what is it and why?
All of my tattoos are music related, I have album covers and musical artists that I respect for the innovations they have created in their various genres.
4. What do you friends and family think?
My mom likes them and most of my friends either have them or are thinking about getting them.
5. Do you have plans for more? If so what are they?
Well, I’m always thinking about more. Its like an addiction, I know people who got their first piece and were back in the chair for more before it healed! My dream piece would be a Stan Kenton bandstand on my entire back,.
I’m saving my back for just that reason. I think my next one will be the cover of The The’s album Dusk. I love the symbolism behind the art.
6. Do you have a particular artist or shop you go to?
I have been going to Micah Caudle at About Face in Oceanside for many years.
Micah has tattooed everything on me but the X. I trust Micah whole heartedly. The thing I love about Micah's work is that he is never afraid to think out of the box.
