Tattoo You - Greaser by Keith Boyd 07.16.07
Behind every tattoo you see there's a great story. We here at Blog San Diego are huge body art fans and are starting this regular feature to highlight some that we've seen and to, in a sense, give voice to those colorful pictures. If you'd like to feature your work email us here at the site. For our first feature I spoke with our good pal Greaser from local band Thee Corsairs. Not only does "The Grease" play gits for his excellent band, he's the the primary writer behind most of the "Lou's Reviews" music writing here at BSD and he's a hell of a cool guy. Here's what he had to say.
1. What was your first tattoo?
First one was my Rocket From The Crypt tattoo. I always said I would never get a band tattoo and the first one I get is exactly that.. . Not only do I love the band, you have to admit that their logo is one of the best band logos around.
2. Do your tattoos have an overall 'theme"? If so what is it and why?
Not really. I mean, one might be all the pirate themed pieces but other than that no. Unless you consider Elvis a part of the empire from star wars! Hah!
All of mine have to do with something in my life for the most part. each has it's own meaning and such.

3. What does your family think?
At first my Mom was bummed, then when she saw the first one she was cool with it. She now sees them as artwork and not something bad. Other members of my family aren't to pleased but I catch them checking mine out all the time. I think they want to get one but are afraid of what their friends will think. Pshhh, it's not like once you get a tattoo you turn into this evil "demon child" or something.
4. Do you have plans for more? If so, what? If not, why not?
Yes, lots more. Just a matter of money and such. I've got plans for lots of things but it's the money. i wanna get my "pirate" arm done soon. Got lots of good ideas for that one.
5. Do you have a favorite artist or shop?
All but 2 of mine were done by Mike Stobbe at Avalon Tattoo in North Park. I highly recommend him or anyone at Avalon for that matter. The 2 not done by him were done by Chris Winn at La Jolla Tattoo and my buddy Mike Carnevale.
Chris has done work on my buddy Rex and is a great artist as well. Mike C was working at Tower for a while and he needed to practice on someone. I'm not one to pass up a free tattoo so I gave up some spot on my arm. It turned out great and hope he gets back to tattooing.
